Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust Reception and Audiences

The Queen and The Countess of Wessex attended a reception at Buckingham Palace honoring the work of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

This is the third time we've seen the Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch this year, the most so far of any year I've tracked here. Dark horse for the year-end faves list? (Also, hi Sophie!)

Tricky (again), but looks like the Pearl Trefoil Brooch.

There's juuuuuuust enough brooch peeking out here to call it the Pearl Trefoil.

The Christening of Lena Tindall

March 16: The Queen, along with other members of the Royal Family, attended the christening of Lena Tindall, daughter of Zara and Mike Tindall, at St. Nicholas Church in Cherington, Gloucestershire.

Looks like this is the first documented appearance in 2019 for the Pearl Trefoil! You can see more from this event here at Hello's site.

RAF Regiment Portrait Presentation

At Windsor Castle, The Queen viewed a new portrait commissioned by the RAF Regiment to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The Queen, Air Commodore in Chief of the RAF Regiment, was painted by artist Stuart Brown in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.

Her Maj in Windsor mode, with a double strand of pearls. (Tough to tell if she's wearing her usual earrings here; sometimes she goes for pearl studs instead.) And there's something of a double brooch situation: the Pearl Trefoil in real life and an RAF Regiment Badge in the painting. That brooch was presented to her by the regiment and shows the Astral Crown and crossed Lee Enfield rifles.

Balmoral Holiday, 2018

By Nick Bramhall from Aberdeen, UK - Balmoral Castle Uploaded by Kurpfalzbilder.de, CC BY-SA 2.0

The Queen started her annual summer Balmoral holiday on July 19. She stayed at Craigowan Lodge on the Balmoral estate while the castle was still open to the public as she usually does, followed by taking up official residence at the castle itself on August 6. Her break usually ends around late September/early October with an engagement or two in Scotland before heading south.

Any appearances by The Queen during her holiday will be gathered in this post.

***********

October 7: NEW! As she wraps up her Balmoral break, Her Maj jumps straight from summer to winter with her fur-trimmed red outfit. Both the Gold Trellis Brooch and Lady Sarah Chatto accompanied her to church today.

September 30: The Sapphire and Diamond Grapes Brooch shows up at church as blue continues to be the color of the summer.

September 23: The Diamond and Pearl Navette Brooch makes another church appearance. In other Balmoral news, The Queen was spotted checking in on some horses, and unfortunately one of her ladies-in-waiting, The Hon. Mary Morrison, broke her ankle in a fall at the castle. [Express, Hello]

September 16: Another church brooch that needs no debate: the Singapore Peranakan Diamond Jubilee Brooch.

September 9: Church again and hmm, interesting, this kinda looks like a badge to me. We'll see what you think. Here's a gallery for your investigation. [Zimbio]

September 2: The Cullinan V Brooch stands out beautifully on this navy coat for another Sunday at Crathie Kirk.

September 1: The annual Braemar Gathering has its own post right here.

August 26: More members of the Royal Family have arrived at Balmoral. The Queen, wearing the Pearl Navette Brooch, was joined in her car for church by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Duchess wore the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings on loan from The Queen. [Evening Standard]

August 19: A good effort from the Pearl Trefoil Brooch here, trying to stand out on this beige tweed for another Sunday church outing.

August 12: It's about time for a thistle brooch. The Three Thistle Brooch was worn to church at Balmoral. Princess Beatrice accompanied her grandmother, wearing a fabulous Garbo hat. [People, Sun]

August 6: The Queen starts her official residency at Balmoral Castle with the traditional welcome ceremony. This always includes inspecting a Royal Guard, so of course the Royal Regiment of Scotland Badge was the pick.

August 5: Church at Balmoral, and if history's an indication, not the first time this summer the brooch will be tough to identify.

July 29: Church at Crathie Kirk near the Balmoral estate, her place of worship while in residence, wearing the Jardine Star Brooch. [Hello]

Audience at Buckingham Palace

The Queen received Sarah Clarke, who has been appointed the first female Black Rod in the 650-year history of the position in the House of Lords, for a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

A little sideways glimpse of a brooch favorite today, to go with this historic appointment.

And so the Pearl Trefoil begins its quest for another year on the favorites list, one appearance at a time...

Oh, bless, we can actually see her brooch! Ye Olde Pearl Trefoil it is.

State Visit from Spain, Farewell

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh bid farewell to King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, at the end of their State Visit to the United Kingdom.
For more: Zimbio gallery.

"What's that you said up there? You're leaving? Already??"

Well, SIGH. That most fabulous of State Visits is over. With an elegant ballerina-inspired ensemble for Queen Letizia, classic pearls for Her Maj, and a tie fit to make a librarian swoon for Philip, they said their goodbyes.

Can we get another monarchy-to-monarchy state visit on the Windsor schedule real quick like? Before I go into withdrawal?

28 May 2017

Church at Balmoral

The Queen, accompanied by The Earl of Wessex and Lady Louise Windsor, attended services at Crathie Church, Balmoral.

Her Maj was spotted up in Scotland today, a little getaway before the busiest month of the royal year, I suppose. The Queen and Prince Philip were spotted leaving Balmoral this time last year as well. The brooch, unsurprisingly, is a tough one, but I'm thinking Pearl Trefoil.

21 April 2017

Newbury Races

The Queen, accompanied by The Princess Royal, attended Newbury Races at Newbury Racecourse.

A very happy 91st birthday to Her Maj today! She spent the day indulging in one of her favorite pastimes. Would have been nice if she'd had a little extra birthday luck, but it was not to be; her horse, Maths Prize, lost today.

Return to London

The Queen departed King's Lynn via train at the end of her Sandringham break.

Her scarf collection is nearly as well coordinated as her umbrella collection. (Fun fact: she wore the same brooch when leaving Sandringham last year.)

Audience at Buckingham Palace, and The Queen's Christmas Staff Luncheon

The Queen received the First Minister of Wales for a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

A lovely chance to see the larger Nizam Rose Brooch in action, but this wasn't the sparkliest event of the day.

December 6: The Queen had a pre-Christmas lunch with her staff at the Goring Hotel.

Her Maj added the Pearl Trefoil Brooch to her pink suit for this festive event (and an unexpectedly lively event, too: the  party was interrupted by a drunk intruder). You can see her leaving the hotel here.

Audiences at Buckingham Palace, and Private Birthday Party

The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace.

This is a "quick, cram everyone in before I leave for my holiday" sort of day if I ever saw one: HM and Prince Philip hosted Governor-General designate of New Zealand Dame Patricia Reddy, The Queen held a private audience with the President of Latvia, and she invested three people with the Order of Merit (Sir James Dyson, Professor Dame Ann Dowling, and The Lord Darzi of Denham, if you're curious).

Engagement and Wedding Rings

Later, The Queen hosted a private party at Draper's Hall with friends, family, and some members of her Household for her 90th birthday.
See photos at: BT and the Daily Mail.

One last birthday hurrah before she heads off to Balmoral! Some of you thought that the debut of the Diamond and Pearl Navette Brooch earlier this year indicated that it may have been a 90th birthday present. Is this reappearance at her birthday party confirmation, or is she leading you on? It's anybody's guess.

Visit to Liverpool

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited Liverpool, where they officially opened the new Exhibition Centre and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and attended a reception at the town hall.

Seems like HM had a jolly away day in Liverpool today, where a huge crowd greeted her when she appeared on the town hall balcony. She was certainly looking quite jolly in her peach coat and floral dress by Stewart Parvin and matching Rachel Trevor Morgan hat, don't you think?

@RoyalFamily

(Her beloved Pearl Trefoil brooch was transferred onto the dress for the reception, of course!)

Audiences at Buckingham Palace

The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace. She also hosted the Governor-General of New Zealand, Sir Jerry Mateparae, and his wife, Lady Janine Mateparae, for lunch.

Even with this lovely shot the brooch is hard to pick out, which made me laugh. Still, I believe we have the Pearl Trefoil here. And I believe that's a gift for HM that Lady Janine is carrying...wonder what she got...

Lister Community School Visit and Audiences

Today: The Queen visited a Queen's Trust beneficiary, Lister Community School, in Plaistow, East London.
I'm always happy to see this pink sapphire in action. On this occasion, though, I can't help but think the plain background of this coat could have handled something a little bigger...

March 2: The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace.
For more: Zimbio gallery.
After all my whining about not being able to see brooches at audiences, we've finally got one that's identifiable. Hilariously, it's one I probably would have guessed with or without the clear view.

Return to London

The Queen departed King's Lynn via train at the end of her Sandringham break.
A bit of a tease to wear a brooch and then almost entirely cover it up, isn't it? I shall not be deterred; you can juuuuuust tell that the Pearl Trefoil is under there. Anyway, this is the gray outfit debuted when The Queen and The DoE visited the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany last year, but I'm noticing the shine and all that zipper-y trim a lot more this time around. Change the color and it might even be festive. Sometimes a change in context really can change the whole outfit.

University of Surrey Visit

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, visited the University of Surrey to open the new School of Veterinary Medicine.
Real horses and fictional horses, all in one day! This is some A+ royal engagement game right here. Number of animals to meet ought to bump your request for a visit up several notches on the royal priority list.
