RAF Regiment Portrait Presentation

At Windsor Castle, The Queen viewed a new portrait commissioned by the RAF Regiment to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The Queen, Air Commodore in Chief of the RAF Regiment, was painted by artist Stuart Brown in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.

Her Maj in Windsor mode, with a double strand of pearls. (Tough to tell if she's wearing her usual earrings here; sometimes she goes for pearl studs instead.) And there's something of a double brooch situation: the Pearl Trefoil in real life and an RAF Regiment Badge in the painting. That brooch was presented to her by the regiment and shows the Astral Crown and crossed Lee Enfield rifles.

Royal Windsor Horse Show

May 9-13: The Queen attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show at Home Park, Windsor.

The Royal Windsor Horse Show is mainly an opportunity to see The Queen in casual mode - this year's casual outfits included a Two Strand Pearl Necklace, Pearl Stud Earrings, one of her Black Strap Watches, and her Engagement and Wedding Rings - but a few brooches also manage to get in on the action.

May 13: The Centenary Rose Brooch made its first appearance of the year.

And it looks like we have a third brooch here, at what I suppose is some of the evening entertainment. Maybe The Queen Mother's Palm Leaf Brooch, hard to be sure.

The only thing we're missing here is Prince Philip's kilt. Otherwise, it's Braemar business as usual!

Royal Windsor Horse Show

May 10-14: The Queen attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show at Home Park, Windsor.

As she does every year, The Queen was in casual mode for several days to join the fun happening in her backyard at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Just her engagement and wedding rings and one of her black strap watches were on display for these days.

The Queen does present some of the prizes and watch a display or two, and that's when the brooches come back out to play. On Saturday, it was Queen Victoria's Bow Brooch. This coat was originally worn with a more distinctive hat - interesting to see it paired with a more typical shape now. (Another view here.)

And on Sunday, she continued to pull from Queen Victoria's legacy as Queen Victoria's 11 Pearl Brooch made its first 2017 appearance.

A Tweet from The Queen

The Queen has tweeted her thanks for the well wishes on her 90th birthday, from the official Twitter account of the Royal Family.

And there's a picture, too! It's almost as though they think we won't believe it was really her... (True.)

Royal Windsor Horse Show

The Queen attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show at Home Park, Windsor.

As usual, The Queen went casual for a few days to browse around the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where she looked just as entertained as we all are that her prize for a winning horse was a Tesco gift card. Just what she needed!

She was also spotted the following day (Friday), again in casual mode with her engagement and wedding Rings and one of her casual watches.

The RWHS usually brings a brooch or two as well.

To present the King's Cup to American show jumper Kent Farrington, a brooch we haven't seen in three years came out of hiding: the Gold Lace Work Brooch, worn alongside her Pearl Stud Earrings and a double strand of pearls.

UPDATE: On the final day, The Queen presented prizes again, wearing the Aquamarine Clip Brooches. You can see photos at the Daily Mail. (With thanks to Jelena.)

Audience at Windsor Castle

The Queen received the Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir Rodney Williams, at Windsor Castle for a private audience.
Another look inside The Queen's private sitting room at Windsor, fresh for your analysis! You'll remember this is where she had her cozy audience with the New Zealand Prime Minister last month, and now we have a little different angle. That red carpet just takes a room right over, no?

Audience at Windsor Castle

The Queen received the Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, at Windsor Castle for a private audience.
Oh, I like this style of audience photo! It's a nice change, right? Dogs milling about (you can see the full set in the gallery link above), Her Maj with her more "casual" set of pearls. So cozy! She's also wearing the Gold Trellis Brooch, which we've only seen for October appearances for three years running.

Royal Windsor Horse Show 2015

The Queen makes several informal visits to the Royal Windsor Horse Show on the private grounds at Windsor Castle during the show's duration (13-17 May this year). Appearances at this year's show will be compiled in this entry, which will be updated as the week goes on.

May 13

Opening day brought both The Queen and The Duchess of Cornwall out to play. Pearl stud earrings, a double strand of pearls, engagement and wedding rings, and a leather strap watch with a round face for HM; Everyday Pearl Pendant Earrings, Gold Chain Bracelet with Multi-Color Stones, Cross and Eye Chain Bracelet, a watch, and engagement and wedding rings on show for HRH.

May 15

Not much to show for jewels today, but a jolly day with extra appearances by The Countess of Wessex and Lady Louise, plus The Duke of York and The King of Bahrain.

May 16

Another standard appearance in the day. The Queen Mother's Palm Leaf Brooch came out later for award presentations, and a longer double strand of pearls for the evening event.

May 17
And finally, she presented more prizes wearing Queen Victoria's 11 Pearl Brooch

Audience at Windsor Castle

The Queen presented American businessman John Mars with the insignia of an Honorary Knight Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire during an audience at Windsor Castle.
A service and reception for the Royal Victorian Order was held yesterday but much to my dismay, it has remained private. Instead, we get a glimpse of Her Maj dressing to coordinate with her krazy karpet, in Windsor Castle mode with simple pearl stud earrings and her black strap watch. (And in case you were wondering, John Mars - our honorary knight here - is indeed Mars as in the candy.)

The Duke of Edinburgh's Knight of the Order of Australia Presentation

The Queen presented The Duke of Edinburgh with the Insignia of a Knight of the Order of Australia at Windsor Castle. Australian High Commissioner Alexander Downer was also present.
It was a controversial decision from Australian PM Tony Abbott to appoint Prince Philip a Knight of the Order of Australia, but the insignia is here and it is fancy.
Even Her Maj couldn't resist a peek at the bling. The golden disks are decorated with citrines, and the blue enameled centers bear the coat of arms of Australia. They're topped by St. Edward's Crown, and the blue ribbons are decorated with golden wattle flower designs.

Alas, though HM was sporting some brooch bling of her own, I haven't been able to make it out. Something involving pearls. She's also still in "week off" mode, with her simple pearl studs instead of her usual pearl and diamond earrings and her black strap watch.

Audience at Balmoral

The Queen invested Peter Cosgrove, Governor-General of Australia, as a Knight of the Order of Australia at Balmoral.
And now the Queen is fully on holiday mode, Balmoral tartan skirt and all. Still can't forget the pearls, though.

Gloriana River Cruise

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of York and the Earl and Countess of Wessex, took a trip on the Thames in Gloriana, the royal barge.
Click above for more from the Huffington Post UK.
This is Casual QEII: just single pearl stud earrings, a mere double strand of pearls, her casual watch, and no brooch at all. Just a lazy Tuesday afternoon rolling down the Thames in one's own royal barge with the fam, I'm sure we've all done the same...

Royal Ascot, Day One

The Queen honored Ascot Races with her presence today.
Click above for video from 7News; click here for an article from the Daily Mail.
And we have a winner! As requested by commenter Katharine Naomi on our Ascot flashback, the Queen wore the Rose Gold Brooch. We haven't seen it on this color before (looks pink to me, though peach was the official description), and it certainly complements the colors of gold that seem to be present in this mystery brooch.
Many of you asked for a hat shape variation. Well, we didn't get that, but we did get some design variation: this is not an Angela Kelly original but an ensemble from two of the other designers that serve Her Maj, a Stewart Parvin coat and dress and a hat by Rachel Trevor-Morgan. You like?

Royal Windsor Horse Show

The Queen attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show (May 8-12) on various days.
The horse show is usually a time for the Queen on casual duty - a single strand of pearls peeking out from under her headscarf and coat, with her rings and casual watch - but there are glimpses of the duty uniform. This year, an emerald and an amethyst came out to play.

Day Watches

A watch is as much a staple of the Queen's daily wardrobe as her wedding and engagement rings, her pearls, and her brooches. She has several watches to select from; those spotted at day events covered by this blog will be listed here, though this list will certainly not be comprehensive.

Gold Watch
This gold watch is frequently spotted for events during the day, and was gift from Canada during her 1951 tour. It is her current go-to watch for most occasions.

Appearances:
Since this is the watch most often spotted on the Queen, events won't be listed individually here. They are tagged; you may click here to see them.

Black Strap Watches
For a less formal option, the Queen has watches with a black strap, one square, one round, and probably several others.
