Holyrood Week: Church at Canongate Kirk

Not my favorite outfit-to-brooch match, this combo, but it's another brooch we don't see super often, and I'll always take that.

Holyrood Week: Scottish Parliament Anniversary

The Queen, joined by The Duke of Rothesay, marked the 20th Anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.
Royal Family

Ooh, a rare brooch pick for day 2 of Holyrood Week! The Queen first publicly wore Queen Mary's Thistle Brooch in a 2010 portrait taken for the Scottish Parliament, so this makes for a nice callback. (We've only seen her wear it one other time, in Scotland in 2017.)

Holyrood Week: Ceremony of the Keys and High School Visit

The Queen visited Greenfaulds High School, Cumbernauld, and arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, for the start of her annual week of Scottish engagements. Her Majesty was presented with the Keys of the City which she returned in the traditional Ceremony of the Keys. A Guard of Honor mounted in the Forecourt of the Palace was reviewed.

Looks like we haven't seen Victoria's Bow Brooch since...last year during Holyrood Week?! Hardly seems possible for such a popular piece. Anyway, it's a good fit to a lemon outfit full of sweet details.

The Queen, joined by The Duchess of Gloucester, hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the work of UK faith and belief groups in bringing local communities together.

Already the fourth appearance of good old Cullinan V in 2019! Headed for another appearance on the year's most popular list? Seems a solid bet.

Royal Ascot, Day 5

The Queen honored Ascot Races with her presence today.

It's the last day of Royal Ascot and at last I have an outfit to call my favorite of Ascot 2019. It's not The Queen - sorry, ma'am - but she was looking garden fresh indeed as she gave her mother's shell brooch its first outing of the year. (I think my favorite of The Queen's Ascot outfits this year was Day 4.)

No, my Ascot fave this year has to goes to the blue-clad beauty Her Maj was chatting to above, her granddaughter-in-law Autumn Phillips. In a JUMPSUIT, no less! I liked it even before I saw this absolutely boss #TeamShades pic, for the record. Easy, breezy, and a chic take on the Ascot dress code.

Have we got some COLOR on display today, friends, as Ascot starts to wind down. The Queen got things rolling with her raspberry coat featuring a nice cut away detail to display the silk floral dress underneath. The Jardine Star Brooch looks enormous here, with a strong solid background to show off its full design.

Her Maj's seatmate for the ride in was Lady Helen Taylor, sporting an unusual orange and pink combo with a whole lot of hat froof. Normally, I'd advocate for ditching the orange bow...situation. But cast her as a supporting player in the raspberry queen's color story and suddenly I'm feeling like, sure, why not?

Sarah, Duchess of York poses her own why not: Why not just treat every color like a neutral? Neutral green, neutral yellow, neutral purple. Maybe just not all at once, though.

Seems like an outfit tailor-made for this specific brooch, no? This outfit's also having a lot of fun with texture, which I like.

I'm all on board for the color story happening with the rest of the family. I'll give a double well played to Autumn Phillips and Princess Eugenie...

Embed from Getty Images

...and I'll even give one to Zara Tindall, even though I could do without pie crust anything, just for the color.

Embed from Getty Images

I'm even feeling a jumpsuit-clad Countess of Wessex. I know. No one's more surprised than me.

I gotta hop right off the train when we reach Lady Gabriella, I'm afraid. Can't recall feeling she overcooked a look before...but I guess there's a first time for everything.

Ha! Some of you mentioned that you missed the Albert Sapphire in yesterday's comments and BEHOLD: Her Maj is here to grant your wishes. Look at the color on that sapphire. Delicious.

In the fashion stakes, The Queen's wearing a Stewart Parvin "silk bourette tweed coat in mottled duck egg, worn with a co-ordinating floral printed silk dress" and a Rachel Trevor-Morgan hat.

HM once again led the family color story with The Duchess of Cornwall right behind her. The pale aqua gives her a chance to bring out one of the pearl chokers that's been in her collection the longest (since at least the 1970s), her Three Strand Pearl Choker with Aquamarine Clasp. I feel like we haven't seen this one in quite a while? Or we have and I'm just not paying that close of attention. (Accurate.)

Embed from Getty Images

I wouldn't generally think of a velvet blazer as a fit for a summer event, but I also wouldn't dare contradict The Princess Royal. She's got pins and brooches to spare here, she's dangerous. Anyway, the dress underneath is super sleek and it's about time someone gave Camilla a run for her money in the pearl choker race.

Our last major player for the day is The Countess of Wessex, and all there really is to say here is that the base of this hat is awfully distracting from this angle. That, and: Happy Anniversary! Ed and Soph are celebrating 20 years of marriage today.

Let the brooch (and hat) (okay, mostly hat) fun begin! A jauntily flipped brim straight out of the Beauxbatons Academy + a Sapphire Jubilee present from Canada = a magical match for Her Maj on Day 1 of Ascot.

I have been waiting for an excuse for Queen Máxima to come to Ascot for-e-ver and HERE SHE IS, staying to enjoy the races with King Willem-Alexander after attending Garter Day. Nobody takes a plant to the face with more panache. And she made up for any carat deficit from yesterday with maaaaajor earrings from the Stuart Tiara (!) and a giant diamond bracelet. ("Out jewel me once, shame on you; out jewel me twice, shame on me." - Máx, probably.)

Embed from Getty Images

I have been waiting for the British royals to dig into Elie Saab for-e-ver and The Duchess of Cambridge DID IT. And then she totally picked pieces that look like other stuff she has in her closet, like I could have confused this with Temperley easily. Well trolled.

Embed from Getty Images

The baby shower-ready pastels continued with The Duchess of Cornwall, not that she ever needs an excuse a pastel outfit with a giant hat. She wore, as usual, her Four Strand Pearl Choker with Large Diamond Clasp and her Everyday Pearl Pendant Earrings. Zara Tindall tied the group together with a floral that is basically one puffy sleeve away from the 80s.

Embed from Getty Images

For a little more hat interest, we must travel to the rest of the family, where both The Princess Royal and The Countess of Wessex offered up some under-brim interest. Honestly, I liked Sophie's whole deal a lot more before I realized it's the dress fabric on the hat. Maybe with some contrast I'd be on board.

Embed from Getty Images

Of course, the York sisters did offer up some colorful contrast and I'm not really on board with either Beatrice's random tassels or Eugenie's visible headband, so probably there's no pleasing me any way. Points for an Ascot attempt, though.

Garter Day

The Queen gave a Luncheon Party for the Companions for the Most Noble Order of the Garter. A Service was held in St. George's Chapel this afternoon.

Hey hey it's Garter Day, featuring Bonus Royal Action! Before we get to that, though, it's Her Maj herself. She was decked out in diamonds this year, including Queen Mary's Cluster Earrings. Those have been more commonly spotted at the Order of the Thistle Service in recent years.

Here's your Bonus Royal Action: The King of Spain and The King of the Netherlands showed up to be formally invested as Supernumerary or "Stranger" Knights of the Garter. Both received the honor during their recent state visits to the United Kingdom.

Royal Family

Queen Letizia and Queen Máxima didn't miss a chance to show up in their behatted best, making for an extra splendiforous royal spouse line up this year.

Embed from Getty Images

Queen Máxima just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that she's still into the ginormous belts, while The Duchess of Cambridge (in the Collingwood Pearl and Diamond Earrings from Diana) is here to reassure you that her supply of proper Catherine Walker princess gear is never-ending. Thanks for the updates, ladies.

Rare is the day when Queen Máxima gets out-jeweled, but she must have felt the sting of a missed opportunity when Letizia and Camilla rolled up. Queen Letizia came to play, bless her, with no less than the earrings from the joyas de pasar earrings and a diamond brooch (!!) (this one's from Queen Sofia). The Duchess of Cornwall matched her gem for gem in her magnificent Pink Topaz Choker and its accompanying earrings, huzzah. Deeeelightful.

Trooping the Colour

Her Majesty, accompanied by members of the Royal Family, was present at The Queen's Birthday Parade on Horse Guards Parade at which the Colour of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was trooped.

Rather a sedate outfit choice from The Queen today for her big birthday parade; she sort of blended in with the interior of her carriage and the Guards Badge - her choice for this event for many years now - faded into the coat. Can't be a neon queen every year, right?

The Duchess of Cambridge wore the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings on loan from The Queen again with her Alexander McQueen outfit (a silhouette to die for in a color I'll never love, alas) and Philip Treacy hat. The Duchess of Cornwall again wore her Four Strand Pearl Choker with Large Diamond Clasp and her Everyday Pearl Pendant Earrings with her repeated minty fresh outfit. The Duchess of Sussex popped in from maternity leave in Givenchy.

Princess Beatrice and The Countess of Wessex were probably able to spend their time chatting about Emilia Wickstead, since Sophie owns this dress too. Thankfully she didn't wear her version today, instead opting for a vibrant green Suzannah repeat. (A nice colorful bookend in this picture with Autumn Phillips' magenta.)

D-Day 75th Anniversary

The Queen and The Prince of Wales joined other world leaders to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day at an event on Southsea Common, Portsmouth.

There have been a number of war commemoration events over the past few years and The Queen has regularly attended them wearing brooches associated with her mother. That touching gesture continued today with the Centenary Rose Brooch, her own 100th birthday gift to The Queen Mother. She was all in on the pink today, striking a welcome bright note in a sea of dark suits.

Can you spy the brooch on this dress? At first glance, it appears to be the Cambridge Pearl Pendant Brooch worn without its pendant. I am thinking, however, that it may be another; The Queen has at least one other small round brooch with a central pearl and diamond surround (honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if she has more than one other, this is a popular and not particularly distinctive arrangement of stones). This brooch seems a bit smaller than the Cambridge. It's very difficult to be certain without a front view and on this background.

State Visit from the United States, Welcome Ceremony and State Banquet

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family hosted a welcome ceremony, a luncheon, and a state banquet on Day 1 of the American state visit to the United Kingdom.
Embed from Getty Images

Plenty of bejeweled treats from today's events - starting with a two brooch/two pendant daytime roster! The Queen started out with the Round Cambridge Emerald Brooch with its pendant attached. It's already the second time this year we've seen this one, and I like that track record. The Duchess of Cornwall was decked out in her usual picks, her Four Strand Pearl Choker with Large Diamond Clasp and her Everyday Pearl Pendant Earrings.

ITN screencap

Instead of transferring the Cambridge Emerald to her dress once inside Buckingham Palace for the luncheon, The Queen gave us a different brooch on her dress: the Cullinan VI and VIII! It's also the second 2019 appearance for this brooch, and even more of a treat.

For the evening's state banquet, I suppose you could say The Queen paid tribute to the shared flag colors of the two nations with her combo of rubies, diamonds, and the Garter blue sash. These are some rare-ish picks, in fact: the Burmese Ruby Tiara hasn't been worn in the time this site's been keeping track and the Crown Ruby Earrings and Necklace were last worn in 2015. Her white gown features daisies with crystal centers and is, as usual, by Angela Kelly.

The Duchess of Cornwall has been using her mother-in-law's strategy of white gowns for state events for some time now, continued this evening in her repeated Bruce Oldfield dress. She also wore my favorite of her pearl chokers for a lovely dash of pink and brought out the earrings she wore on her wedding day for the first time in a while.

The Duchess of Cambridge's big debut tonight was the riband and star of the Royal Victorian Order. It's her first time in a sash; she was given the honor on her wedding anniversary earlier this year. She paired this with her usual state banquet tiara choice and the sapphire and diamond earrings she has previously loaned from The Queen. Her white gown is by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Big news from The Countess of Wessex, too, as her Wedding Tiara has had a bit of a makeover! The side elements have been changed and moved closer in - reducing some of the "cat ear" effect the previous design was often tagged with.

It also looks as though she is wearing the Diamond Chandelier Drop Demi-Parure on loan from The Queen.

Since Sophie left the aquamarine aficionado post open for the evening, The Princess Royal stepped up with her Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara and accompanying aqua gems.

Rounding things out in suites of pearls and diamonds, Princess Michael of Kent wore the Kent Festoon Tiara and Princess Alexandra wore the Ogilvy Tiara in its pearl version.

All in all, a splendid display of Windsor jewels!
