Fresh off its run as one of the most significant brooches of 2017, the Grima Ruby has returned to take a stab at 2018. I'm glad it brings some color to this outfit of Her Maj's, especially when she's standing next to this resplendent guest, the Ambassador of the Republic of Chad.

Love this Stewart Parvin outfit and Rachel Trevor-Morgan hat. The Diamond and Pearl Navette Brooch looks great on this background. This was the start of a double dose of pale blue for the day - and a double dose of brooches...

The Queen also visited London Fashion Week, where she watched designer Richard Quinn's fashion show and presented him with the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design.

Today's second engagement was a surprise visit and an absolute treat. Front row at a fashion show with Dame Anna Wintour! People seem very fussed about the fact that Vogue's own queen kept her sunglasses on, which is a thing she always does at fashion shows to help hide her reactions to the show. That's just part of the authentic Anna Wintour Front Row Experience, man.

This visit was later in the day, so Her Maj was hatless and made an outfit change to something with a bit of sparkle, an Angela Kelly duck egg blue tweed dress and jacket embellished with tiny aquamarine Swarovski crystals. And, of course, the Cullinan V shining away on her shoulder.

By the way, here's a name we mention all the time but a face you may not know:

That's Angela Kelly herself. She organized and designed the award, in a shape inspired by the Queen Elizabeth rose. The award recognizes the role the fashion industry plays in society and diplomacy, and it will be awarded annually to "an emerging British fashion designer who shows talent and originality, whilst demonstrating value to the community and/or sustainable policies."

Audience at Buckingham Palace

The Queen received Sarah Clarke, who has been appointed the first female Black Rod in the 650-year history of the position in the House of Lords, for a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

A little sideways glimpse of a brooch favorite today, to go with this historic appointment.

This is a quick repeat! We just saw this dress on February 2nd, with the same brooch.

Back to the daily grind! At least this daily grind includes something (apparently) amusing, a fabulous hat, a couple of bird statues, and a Queen Mary brooch we haven't seen in four years.

Return to London

The Queen departed King's Lynn via train at the end of her Sandringham break.

A good moment for those that like a look into Her Maj's surely massive scarf collection; not such a great moment for those waiting for the brooches. I like that she's ending this Sandringham break with a look back to a past orange Christmas, though - kind of a nice bookend to the season.

Church in Norfolk

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended church at West Newton, Norfolk, near the Sandringham estate.

It's still a treat to see this outfit, which dates back at least to Christmas 2009. This red is perfect for Her Maj, and a consistent canvas for various ruby brooches from her collection.

Visit to RAF Marham

The Queen, Honorary Air Commodore, visited RAF Marham, Norfolk.

You'll hear no objection from me over a fresh purple outfit and the first amethyst appearance of the year, but you already knew that.

As always, a Norfolk engagement signals that the end of the Sandringham winter break is near. The Queen usually stays through her accession date (February 6) before heading back to London and her regular public schedule. RAF Marham is a regular Norfolk stop for her; she visits about every other year.
