Visit to Poundbury

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, visited Poundbury, The Prince of Wales' urban development.

If you're unveiling a statue of The Queen Mother - which she was, at Queen Mother Square - then you wear one of The Queen Mother's brooches. Done and done. She also visited a supermarket, because sometimes you have to throw the caption writers a bone.

The Duchess of Cornwall sported one of her signature pearl chokers and had her own photo op later in the day, when she pulled a pint of "The Duchess" beer while opening an inn named The Duchess Of Cornwall.

'Tis always a good day when a brooch can be spotted at an investiture.

Audiences at Buckingham Palace

The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace.

Anytime we can see a brooch at these audiences feels like a minor miracle. Okay, it's not exactly easy to see this brooch, but it is there and it is the pink sapphire and we will take it.

Audiences at Buckingham Palace

HM here is being presented with a maquette of a statue of "In Flanders Fields" writer John McCrae, and we are being presented with another opportunity to play everybody's favorite audience game, Who's in the Pictures?. I see portraits of the Belgian and Dutch sovereign couples have made the cut on the side there, and this pleases me.

Team GB Reception, Audience at Buckingham Palace

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family hosted a reception for Team GB's Olympic and Paralympic athletes at Buckingham Palace.

I think she went with a dress zazzy enough to coordinate with those bright medals and their colorful ribbons, just in case the opportunity opened up to swipe one. It's what I would do.

But she came with her own bling, of course. The Jardine Star's going to have to step it up if it wants to make the list of 2016 favorites.

Earlier: The Queen received the Governor of South Australia, the Hon. Hieu Van Le, and his wife, Mrs. Le, for an audience at Buckingham Palace.

The Round Cambridge Emerald's on its third appearance for the year. All three have been at Buck Pal audiences, and I'm totally on board with making this the new "audience brooch" standard.

British Champions Day at Royal Ascot

October 15: The Queen visited Ascot Racecourse for the QIPCO British Champions Day.

Her Maj was in good form yesterday! As festive as the feathers sprouting from her hat, it seems, thoroughly enjoying her day out at the races. Not such a great day for us here in the jewel spotting biz, but a brooch would have had a hard time showing up on this coat, so she understandably went without.

British Red Cross Portrait Unveiling, and Audiences

Today at Windsor Castle, The Queen unveiled a new portrait of herself commissioned to commemorate her six decades of patronage to the British Red Cross.

A third appearance already for one of HM's new-to-us brooches this year - and with this many appearances, it's feeling even more a safe bet that it's new to her this year as well.

And there's the portrait in question, by British artist Henry Ward, featuring HM in her Garter robes and Queen Alexandra's Kokoshnik Tiara. It's certainly very dramatic. Bit gloomy, maybe. As ever, I am dying to know what she really thought.

Here's one I missed from earlier in the week, not that there's much to miss, since the brooch is but a twinkle that I can't make out. (Also, this room looks good with this dress. Next level accessorizing, this is.)

A ride in one's own open top Range Rover, an underwater salute, that's all in a day's work. The proper military badge for the group at hand, that's all in a day's brooch.

Ooh, this is a treat, we haven't seen the Greville Ivy Leaf Brooches used in several years! And she wore beige gloves, while we're noting things that we don't always see.

Also at this event, a chat with the newly knighted Sir Rod Stewart:
Grandmothers, always checking up on you.

Earlier, The Queen received the President of Croatia for a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

We also got some emerald love, two treats in one day. She knows we missed her, bless.

She's back to work, and kindly wearing a brooch we can spot even from the side. Queen Victoria's 11 Pearl Brooch seems a good start to the fall season, no?
