Mmkay, you're going to have to watch the video (in the tweet below or a slightly longer one here) and squint past the printed dress to see if you agree with me on the brooch - I'm calling it for the Women of Hampshire.

Do you think Her Maj and Her Maj had a nice chat about the importance of dressing to be seen in a crowd? That is one screaming hot pink Oscar de la Renta dress on Máxima!

On the other hand, this is a very smart soft blue suit for QEII. (I think it's new? If it isn't, then I'm sure I've said this very thing in the past.) The black accents tie in those beloved black accessories so well. And the whole lot is a nice background for the Women of Hampshire Brooch.

I'm not mad at more purple and another appearance for the Women of Hampshire Brooch, not mad at all.

Back to the daily grind! At least this daily grind includes something (apparently) amusing, a fabulous hat, a couple of bird statues, and a Queen Mary brooch we haven't seen in four years.

Luncheon for the Prime Minister of India, and Audiences

The Queen received the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at Buckingham Palace during his visit to the United Kingdom. Her Majesty hosted a luncheon for the Prime Minister, after which they viewed a selection of items from the Royal Collection with ties to India.
It's been nearly a year since we saw the lovely Flame Lily, which is too long in my book! Gorgeous piece.

The Queen also held audiences at Buckingham Palace today.

We're back to the brooch guessing game. My money's on the Women of Hampshire Brooch, do you concur? (Wonderfully interesting jewelry on our guest here, too. This is the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan, Gulnara Iskakova, who was among those presenting their credentials to The Queen today.)

This is a little tough to see, but we have another appearance for the Women of Hampshire Brooch! So lovely to see this one back in the rotation...and it would be even lovelier to see it at an engagement when it can be viewed properly (hint, hint).

The Women of Hampshire Brooch

The Women of Hampshire Brooch
This diamond and pearl brooch, which was originally intended to be used as a pendant, was Queen Mary's wedding gift from the Women of Hampshire in 1893. A committee chaired by the Duchess of Wellington raised £775 and selected this pendant from Garrard. The piece features a large brilliant with a foliate spray above and three bell flower pendants below - thanks to those flowers, this is often referred to as the Harebell Brooch. Two pear-shaped diamonds and one baroque pearl hang from the flowers; they are all removable. (Hugh Roberts notes that, as with the Richmond Brooch, the pearl here was at one point in time used for the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara, but was later returned.)
Queen Mary, left, and the Queen
Queen Mary used the pendant jewel as a brooch, and that is how it is used today. It passed to the Queen on her grandmother's death in 1953, and she wears it only occasionally.
