State Visit to France, Embassy Reception

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh attended a reception at the British Embassy in Paris on Day 1 of their State Visit to France.
For more: Gallery from Zimbio (this has been linked before, and includes the whole day).
OUTFIT #4 FOR THE DAY, KIDS. (Seems like a caps lock-worthy thing.)

And another new brooch alert! I'm thinking about it, but I'm not sure I've ever seen this one before. Does anyone recognize it? Updated to add: This does indeed appear to be a first. See the link below.

Buckingham Palace Garden Party and Audiences

The Queen, with other members of the Royal Family, hosted a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
Gotta love a garden party in the pouring rain, right? With 8,000 guests, you're pretty much stuck with the outdoors anyway. The Queen counteracted the gloom in her cheery yellow (this is the outfit she wore to William and Kate's wedding, if it looks familiar) and her favorite brooch. Other family members in attendance were the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and the always lovely Princess Alexandra of Kent - see the links above.

Also today, the Queen received the Ambassadors of Bolivia and Liberia at Buckingham Palace.

For more: Gallery from Zimbio.
I think she might be  wearing the wee Greville Scroll Brooch, but with the print of the dress (and everything else going on in the room!) it's hard to tell.

One more thing, of little relevance to jewelry, but here you go: Yesterday, the Queen was spotted riding at Windsor Castle.

Angela Lansbury is the BEST. Celebratory Murder, She Wrote marathon, anyone? (PSA: The series is available to stream on Netflix.) Anyway, back to the topic of this blog: the brooch is hard to positively identify here, probably one of the ones with a pearl at the center.

Commonwealth Day and Prince Edward's Birthday

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh joined other members of the Royal Family at Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth Day Observance Service.

Three Strand Pearl Necklace

Later, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were present at a reception given by the Commonwealth Secretary-General at Marlborough House to mark Commonwealth Day.
...and one interesting selection! I think this brooch might be new to me, but I'm racking my brain...any thoughts? More to come...

Three Strand Pearl Necklace

And finally: Prince Edward is celebrating his 50th birthday. Over the weekend, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were in attendance at his private birthday party, click here for a glimpse of them in the car. The Queen fancied it up with a longer triple strand of pearls and Queen Alexandra's Wedding Earrings.

Reed's School Visit and Audiences

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Reed's School, Cobham, to mark its bicentenary.
The coconut confection hat returns, with classic pearls to accompany it.

Also: Yesterday, March 5, the Queen received the Ambassadors of Armenia and Myanmar at Buckingham Palace; click here for a picture at the British Monarchy's Flickr site. But it's very difficult to tell which brooch it might be.

State Visit from South Korea, State Banquet

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, together with other members of the Royal Family, gave a State Banquet in honor of the President of the Republic of Korea at Buckingham Palace.

Unless you count the State Opening of Parliament, this is the first tiara event of the year for Her Maj, and more than likely the only one we'll see. So you have to love that she's busted out one of her biggest brooches (and a rare sight, at that), plus a hefty necklace and earring set - none of which we've covered on the blog before. She's done her best to tide us over, because she's a gem. She upped the sparkle factor but kept it all in white, which allowed the red of her Korean order to really stand out.
I'm not sure just yet which bracelet she's worn, so if you have any thoughts, chime in!

There wasn't much in the way of other British tiaras on display, only a mere glimpse of the Princess Royal. Once again, bonus points are awarded to the President, who shined in her traditional dress. Click here for a gallery.

Diamond Bracelet (Unidentified)
Diamond Watch (same as here)

UPDATE: Video of the banquet! Loooook at the sparkle...
You can also see the Duchess of Gloucester, also in attendance, but alas we still can't really see the tiaras for her or for the Princess Royal.

There is also a traditional banquet for the visiting head of state at the Guildhall, which was attended by the Gloucesters.
And here we actually can see the Duchess well enough to tell that she's worn her favorite Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara, in its all-diamond format.

National Theatre Anniversary

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited the National Theatre, South Bank, London, to celebrate the institution's 50th anniversary.
Video: The Queen meets a puppet horse from the production War Horse. Click here for an article and pictures from the Express.
I confess, when I saw pink from a distance, I wondered if the new Saskatchewan brooch might be involved - but no, no, too soon. Oh well. Yay for pink jewels in any case!

UPDATE: The previous evening, the couple dined at the Cavalry and Guards Club, click here for pictures. With her sparkly gown, the Queen wore pearls: a two strand pearl necklace, plus one of her pearl strand bracelets (we've covered two here previously, the Pearl and Diamond Floral and Queen Mary's Pearl Bracelet, but there are more options and it's hard to tell which this is). There are earrings as well, of course, but they're hard to make out.

Investiture at Buckingham Palace

The Queen held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace.
Click above for a video and article from the BBC.
And the Olympic investiture train rolls on, with gongs for Victoria Pendleton, Stella McCartney, and more. HM is very sparkly today; I thought she might forgo the brooch given the shoulder ornamentation, but she seems to have stuck one on top. Which brooch is the question: at first glance, I saw the Frosted Sunflower, but I want that one to take a rest so much that I'm happily seeing all kinds of other possibilities. Your opinions, please?

State Visit from Kuwait, State Banquet

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, together with other members of the Royal Family, gave a state banquet in honor of the Emir of Kuwait at Windsor Castle.
Isn't that terribly kind, Her Maj saw we were reviewing some of her wedding gifts this month and now she's worn another to follow the Williamson Diamond worn earlier in the day: it's the Girls tiara! (My fave.) Bless her sparkly little heart, that's ever so helpful.

Royal Variety Performance

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, marked the 100th anniversary of the Royal Variety Performance with a show at the Royal Albert Hall.
When I saw this sparkly little dress in Angela Kelly's book with the teaser that we might see it on the Queen in the future, I wondered if it might be a showbiz kind of gown!
If you can bring yourself to look past the sparkly gown, we have some serious diamonds - and some are hard to identify. The earrings, it's hard to tell; the necklace is a collet necklace, a slightly longer one. She's also not wearing her standard evening watch; based on the band, it could be her custom Patek Philippe diamond watch. Whatever the real identity of these pieces, this is some serious diamond power.

Another mystery church brooch. Such is the life when HM buries herself at Balmoral, sigh.

I think this is the rule: you agree to "parachute" out of  helicopter, you can wear as many diamonds as you like. Yup. Sounds right to me.

Church at Sandringham

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh attended church near Sandringham.
Staying well away from Wimbledon, QEII popped up wearing red and a brooch (click for pictures)...but what brooch? Guesses?

Holyrood Week, Day 4: Order of the Thistle Service

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by the Princess Royal and the Countess of Strathearn, attended a Thistle Service at St. Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh for the installation of Prince William, Earl of Strathearn, as a Knight of the Thistle and attended a lunch as guests of the Knights of the Thistle.

Garter Day

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh gave a Luncheon Party for the Companions of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. A Service was held in St. George's Chapel this afternoon.
Little known fact: Honi soit qui mal y pense was originally translated as "Make fun of the hat and die."
