This is the third time we've seen the Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch this year, the most so far of any year I've tracked here. Dark horse for the year-end faves list? (Also, hi Sophie!)

Tricky (again), but looks like the Pearl Trefoil Brooch.

The brooch is back, and it's one we haven't seen since 2017. I'll take that.

Her Maj looked happy to be back in action today, and the feeling is mutual! This is the 2017 debut of the Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch, which works really well on this blue tweed.

Engagements in Scotland always mark the beginning of the end of The Queen's summer break. Next month, she'll be back to London and back to her usual schedule of public engagements.

The Queen’s Top Five Sapphires: #5. The Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch

The Queen’s Sapphire Jubilee, marking an incredible 65 years on the throne, is on February 6. We’d be remiss if we didn’t use the opportunity to take a look at some of the top sapphires in her collection, so we’ll be counting down the top five (according to, well, me) starting today.

So what qualifies something as a top sapphire jewel? History, absolutely; size, sure. But the jewels I’ve picked for this list also represent different sides of The Queen’s jewel vault. The Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch isn’t an enormous piece. It isn’t one of the more recognizable pieces, either.

Given to The Queen in 1946 for a ship christening, the Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch both represents the importance of the pieces she had when her jewel collection was significantly smaller (she wore this brooch all the time in her Princess Elizabeth days) as well as her tendency to continue using those early favorites even as her vault grew more and more packed.

The casual observer of Her Majesty’s jewels might not recognize this brooch until you point out all the notable moments it was worn for, including Princess Anne’s christening and the photographs taken when the young Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh where on their honeymoon. The Queen made sure to match it when they adorably recreated that moment to mark their 60th wedding anniversary. That alone makes it worthy of a place on this list. (Speaking of jubilees, these two kids will hit 70 years of marriage later this year!)

Royal Ascot, Day 1 and Audience at Windsor Castle

The Queen honored Ascot Races with her presence today.
Ooooh oooh OOOH - look! It's only Day 1 of the Ascot brooch parade, and my brooch wishes have already been fulfilled! This is a brooch we haven't seen since it was worn by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and it is likely part of the set of Crown rubies that date back to Queen Victoria (although there are multiple ruby brooches and some dispute over which belong specifically to the set and which come from other sources). See the link below for more.

It's enormous and luscious, and looks a treat on this vibrant pink. I'm already on pins and needles waiting for Day 2...

We'll be doing a full rundown of the Ascot fashion stakes on the other blog tomorrow, so I'll save my comments on The Duchess of Cornwall's outfit for then. But as far as the jewels go...
...pffft. They're nothing to sneeze at on their own, don't get me wrong, but they are a bit of a let down after The Queen's surprise. Her Four Strand Pearl Choker with Small Diamond Clasp (with her chain necklace and C charm underneath) and her Everyday Pearl Pendant Earrings make for a thoroughly everyday combination.

The Queen also received the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea for a private audience at Windsor Castle.

Bonus brooch for a busy day!

Easter Service

The Queen, accompanied by members of the Royal Family, attended Easter Service in Windsor.
We'll be covering the royal Easter fashions on the other blog tomorrow, but for now, a brooch. The Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch, specifically, one of the earliest brooches given to Her Maj. I half expected the Aquamarine Clips when I saw this outfit from afar, so this was a nice surprise!

Visit to RAF Marham

The Queen, Honorary Air Commodore, visited RAF Marham, King's Lynn, Norfolk.
Haven't actually seen a shot of this one with the brooch (she's worn the Prince Albert sapphire with this ensemble previously) but look - she matches the kiddos. Adorbs.

As things kick back up after the Sandringham break, a traveling state visit has been announced! It's just a pop over to France, but it's nice to see a trip in the works. HM and the DoE's trip to France will be June 5-7, and will include celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings.

Update: Thanks to more pictures on the British Monarchy's Flickr, we have a brooch - she's broken the Albert trend and opted for the Sapphire Chrysanthemum.

The Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch

The Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch
The Queen has received many official gifts, including jewels, over the course of her life. I suppose one might reach a point at which it becomes commonplace, but at the beginning, it's something special. This brooch is one of those first gifts, and it seems to have retained a special status in the Queen’s collection.
The Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch, a chrysanthemum with diamond petals and a center of multiple sapphires, all set in platinum, was a gift to then-Princess Elizabeth for launching the British Princess oil tanker in 1946. The brooch was given by Sir James Laing & Sons Limited and the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company Limited. She wore it often in the early years, before her collection grew.
The brooch has made a few notable appearances, including for Princess Anne’s christening and famously for both the honeymoon photo and recreation of that photo for the 60th wedding anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen continues to wear the brooch today.
