Royal Mail 500th Anniversary, and Alexandra Gardens Bandstand Opening

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, visited Royal Mail Windsor to mark the 500th anniversary of the Postal Service. The couple then visited Alexandra Gardens, Windsor, to officially open the new bandstand.

The Rose Gold Brooch is a lovely complement for this bright cerise Stewart Parvin coat (with a silk dress in a floral pattern of cerise, orange and lavender, per the official description) and Rachel Trevor Morgan hat. A cheery way to kick off this week's birthday events, no?

Coming up, on that note: The Queen and The Duke will do a walkabout in Windsor tomorrow (April 21, her actual birthday), and Her Maj will unveil a plaque for The Queen's Walkway. In the evening, the couple will be joined by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall as The Queen lights the first in a series of beacons for her 90th birthday. The Prince of Wales will also reportedly hold a private family dinner for her.

On Friday, on a non-birthday note: The Queen and The Duke will host a private lunch at Windsor Castle for President and Mrs. Obama, who will dine with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry in the evening.

At today's event, The Queen also viewed the four generation portrait commissioned for her official 90th birthday stamps. You can read more about the photograph, and her clever brooch selection, in my last post.

Buckingham Palace Garden Party and Audiences

The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace, including with the President of Italy, Sergio Matterella.
It's a double brooch day! Firstly, dressing to blend in with her wall color, but I can't help but note this is the second appearance in a row where this Cambridge emerald brooch gets to keep its pendant. A promising trend, I hope.

Engagement and Wedding Rings

The Queen, accompanied by members of the Royal Family, hosted a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
And secondly, the Rose Gold Brooch, which really needs a strong background color like this to stand out (similar to last year's Maundy Service, though a different outfit).

As always, several other royal attendees were hanging about, including The Dapper Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess of Gloucester (who can just be seen behind The Queen above), plus these characters:

Breaking out the outfit she sported for the Cambridge wedding back in 2011, The Princess Royal appears to have had a whale of a time. She's holding her own in the hardware department, too, with diamond flower earrings, a double strand of pearls, and a pretty big brooch.
It's always a bit jarring to see her in something with such added fuss (and in something crafted in recent years), isn't it? Takes a blink or two to realize who you're looking at.

Speaking of added fuss...I'm just not sure about this combination of pattern and embellishment, Princess Beatrice. But I can't lie, I covet those shoes and their saucy metallic toes. Like tap shoes with attitude.

It's not a fashion accessory, but I am certain that Princess Michael chose an outfit with black trim to coordinate with her new pirate life and you have to love her for making the best of things. (Apparently she had eye surgery last week.) The always well-tailored Prince Michael rounded out the black and white theme with a gray scheme of his own.

Royal Ascot, Day Five

The Queen honored Ascot Races with her presence today.
This has been an Ascot week for the brooch record books: two debuts, two second appearances, and for the finale, a brooch new to us since 2012. Needless to say, I'm in heaven.

(Little nod to the Duke there - he's my best dressed gent of the week. His outfits have been subtly coordinated with the Queen's, not overtly matchy, but just enough to make it look like someone's paying attention. Well done.)

On this very last day of Ascot, I have no awards to hand out, just one important notice for you: PRINCESS EUGENIE WORE RED.

And I shall rejoice that her closet hasn't gone permanently beige, and leave it at that.

Royal Maundy Service

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, attended the Royal Maundy Service at Blackburn Cathedral in Lancashire.
Why yes, a cerise cashmere coat from Stewart Parvin (with matching hat by Angela Kelly) does seem like the perfect background for the Rose Gold Brooch, one of our mysteries from 2012. Well played, Your Maj.

Royal Ascot, Day One

The Queen honored Ascot Races with her presence today.

And we have a winner! As requested by commenter Katharine Naomi on our Ascot flashback, the Queen wore the Rose Gold Brooch. We haven't seen it on this color before (looks pink to me, though peach was the official description), and it certainly complements the colors of gold that seem to be present in this mystery brooch.
Many of you asked for a hat shape variation. Well, we didn't get that, but we did get some design variation: this is not an Angela Kelly original but an ensemble from two of the other designers that serve Her Maj, a Stewart Parvin coat and dress and a hat by Rachel Trevor-Morgan. You like?

State Visit from Indonesia, Welcome Ceremony

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh welcomed the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and Mrs. Yudhoyono at the beginning of their State Visit to the United Kingdom.
This is a new brooch to feature here on the blog - but I believe it's actually one we've seen before, a question mark from this summer. See below.

The Rose Gold Brooch

The Rose Gold Brooch
This brooch strongly resembles the Diamond and Gold Rose Brooch in its arched overall shape and floral design, but features two blossoms and seems to include some colored metals - perhaps a selection of colors of gold set with diamonds, though a selection of colored stones could also be a possibility. I'll call it the Rose Gold Brooch, though that is not definite. No provenance has been confirmed, though some have speculated it could be part of a set of four brooches given to The Queen by The Sultan of Oman. See the Three Thistle Brooch entry for more details.
Seeing it at the welcoming ceremony for the President of Indonesia's state visit, I believe this is the floral brooch which seemed to be the Diamond and Gold Rose Brooch but with two flowers seen in video at the Olympic Heads of State Reception.

Olympic Heads of State Reception

The Queen, accompanied by several members of the Royal Family, hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace for visiting Heads of State prior to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in London.
Hmm, will have to give this brooch some pondering. Looks like the Diamond and Gold Rose Brooch but maybe with two central blossoms. Thoughts?

UPDATE: I believe we have a brooch match.
