A couple quick appearances from Her Maj to cover before a busy week begins: her yearly stint at polo, featuring the second (confirmed, but I feel like this one has been a regular mystery brooch guess) appearance of the Pearl Triangle for 2019...

Church in Norfolk

The Queen attended church at West Newton, Norfolk, near the Sandringham estate.

The Pearl Triangle gets a leg up on the 2019 favorite brooch stakes just as the Sandringham break begins to wind down. The Queen usually returns to London just after the anniversary of her accession.

It's Her Maj's annual autumn Ascot appearance, with the Pearl Triangle and one of my favorite newer outfits. Love this shade of blue with an orange accent.

Audience at Buckingham Palace

Missed this yesterday, amidst all the RAF happenings: another appearance for the Pearl Triangle, a perennial audience favorite.

Easter Service

Her Maj was bright and Spring-ready today, right in line with the two girls in their Easter best who presented her with flowers after the the service. And we got a lovely view of the Pearl Triangle Brooch, which we've mostly been seeing in glimpses at audiences and investitures.

It was a great fashion day for the whole family - but that's coming up tomorrow at the other blog.

Thankfully, after Her Maj's last appearance left her brooch a mystery, we get a glimpse of this one: a very sparkly Pearl Triangle Brooch! The Pearl Triangle is another brooch that's heavily favored for audiences and investitures. In fact, all of its appearances for the past year have been either audiences or investitures.

Women's Royal Naval Service 100 Project Reception and Audiences at Buckingham Palace

The Queen and The Princess Royal attended a reception to mark the centenary of the Women's Royal Naval Service and the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps at the Army and Navy Club, London.

The Aqua Clips took her to church on her last Balmoral weekend, and now they're taking her right back to business in London. Surprising to see them twice in a row, but more surprising they still haven't been seen all that often this year.

The Queen getting back to her regularly scheduled London business = us getting back to our regularly scheduled brooch squinting business. I'm pretty sure this is the Pearl Triangle. (On another note, she picked up a new treasure today: a silver pumpkin from the Cambodian ambassador!)

Pearl Triangle Brooch

Of course, while all of this qualifies as business as usual, this week brought an announcement of a break in tradition: The Queen won't be laying her own wreath at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday this year. Instead, The Prince of Wales will lay her wreath while The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh watch from a balcony above, as Camilla, Kate, and other members of the Royal Family do.

This will be a significant change but it's one I'm glad to see. Her wreath was already made lighter for her in 2016, and watching her walk backwards down the small steps at the monument after laying it was making me a little nervous last year, you know? Pass it on, and she'll still be present for it all. A good compromise.

Audience at Buckingham Palace

The Queen received the Governor of Western Australia for a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

Maybe a missed opportunity for the Australian Wattle Brooch - what isn't a missed opportunity for the Australian Wattle, amirite - but instead we have the Pearl Triangle in its second appearance of the year.

Audience at Windsor Castle

The Queen received the President of Guyana for a private audience at Windsor Castle.

That's not a bad view they've got there, eh? The Queen is in her more "casual" pearls, as she often is at Windsor, with a brooch we saw four times last year (and yet I still didn't think we'd seen it in a long time. Must not be making much of an impression...).

Holyrood Week: Order of the Thistle Service and Archers' Hall Portrait

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of Cambridge (The Earl of Strathearn, in Scotland), and The Princess Royal, attended a Service for the Order of the Thistle at St. Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh.

The last Thistle service - in 2014; this one is held every other year - brought us a most unusual selection of ruby earrings with this elaborate green velvet getup. But this year, HM was back to playing it safe with diamonds and pearls.

To go with the full costume of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, it appears we have Queen Mary's Cluster Earrings (surprisingly easy to confuse with other earrings when in use, those are), plus The Queen's favorite pearl evening watch.

Later, The Queen viewed a new portrait of herself commissioned to mark her 90th birthday, at Archers' Hall, Edinburgh.

Appropriate to unveil a portrait featuring the Thistle gear on Thistle day, I'd say. The new portrait is by artist Nicky Philipps and was commissioned by the Royal Company of Archers, The Queen's Bodyguard for Scotland. The Queen sat for the portrait at Windsor Castle, wearing her Thistle robes and Queen Victoria's Pearl Drop Earrings.

Audiences at Buckingham Palace

The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace.

On most Fridays, you'll find Her Maj already cozied up at Windsor Castle for the weekend. The day after the EU referendum is, uh, not most Fridays, to put it very very lightly. She had a few audiences lined up at Buckingham Palace (including presenting the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Award to choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne, pictured above); today's audience with David Cameron, however, remained private.

I can't help but think The Queen's upcoming engagements just got a bit more interesting: Monday will see her visit Northern Ireland, and she'll address the Scottish Parliament on July 2. After that, she'll have her annual Holyrood Week of Scottish engagements.

Church at Sandringham and Gallipoli Service

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended church at Sandringham, Norfolk. They also attended a service to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the Gallipoli campaign at the Sandringham War Memorial.
A family affair today, as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also popped over from their Norfolk home for church. Nice to have a little extra royal power on hand when there's a commemoration service involved.

Audience at Windsor Castle

The Queen received the Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir Rodney Williams, at Windsor Castle for a private audience.
Another look inside The Queen's private sitting room at Windsor, fresh for your analysis! You'll remember this is where she had her cozy audience with the New Zealand Prime Minister last month, and now we have a little different angle. That red carpet just takes a room right over, no?

Gurkha 200 Pageant

The Queen attended a pageant to mark 200 years of Gurkha service to the Crown at Royal Hospital Chelsea, London.
I was surprised that we didn't see anything more formal in the jewel department, given that some of the men were in black tie, but her silver and white Angela Kelly outfit did have a bit of interest on the sleeves and hem to fancy it up.
To this, she added her Pearl Triangle Brooch, which we haven't seen in over a year.

Is that The Sultan of Brunei up there, you ask? Why yes it is, my eagle-eyed friend.
And here he is resisting the urge to back away slowly as The Duke of Edinburgh examines a Kukri, a traditional Gurkha weapon.

Also present were The Prince of Wales and Prince Harry. They both have added ties to the Gurkhas: Charles is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Gurkha Rifles and a patron of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, which organized the event, and Harry lived with a Gurkha battalion while serving in Afghanistan.

Funny how these things have cycles - it's been almost exactly a year since we last saw this one in public.
