Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn Visit

The Queen visited the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn to officially open the new Ashworth Centre and re-open the recently renovated Great Hall. She was accompanied by The Duke of York, Royal Bencher of the Inn.

The rubies in this brooch look extra pink on this most vibrant of pink outfits, and the gold picks up the buttons nicely. Well matched, this combo.

Audiences at Windsor Castle

The Queen held audiences at Windsor Castle.

Well, this is all pleasingly coordinated, from queen to room and even to this guest (in white, the President of Estonia; also received today was the Governor-General of Barbados). The Gold Lace Work Brooch is never a favorite of mine, but the gold and rubies are nice with this dress.

Church at Sandringham

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended church at Sandringham, Norfolk.

A delicious deep red is the perfect complement to the rubies in this large brooch, which usually take a back seat to all the yellow gold.

Royal Windsor Horse Show

The Queen attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show at Home Park, Windsor.

As usual, The Queen went casual for a few days to browse around the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where she looked just as entertained as we all are that her prize for a winning horse was a Tesco gift card. Just what she needed!

She was also spotted the following day (Friday), again in casual mode with her engagement and wedding Rings and one of her casual watches.

The RWHS usually brings a brooch or two as well.

To present the King's Cup to American show jumper Kent Farrington, a brooch we haven't seen in three years came out of hiding: the Gold Lace Work Brooch, worn alongside her Pearl Stud Earrings and a double strand of pearls.

UPDATE: On the final day, The Queen presented prizes again, wearing the Aquamarine Clip Brooches. You can see photos at the Daily Mail. (With thanks to Jelena.)

Archbishop of Canterbury's Homage

The Queen received the new Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, for an audience during which he 'did homage' as is tradition for new appointees. Her Majesty also received the Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island and the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia for audiences.
I do love the sound of these old traditions. All in a day's work for the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

Visit to Bristol

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Bristol.
Click above for an article with video and pictures from the Daily Mail.
And what did they do in Bristol? They took a ride in a motorhome. A motorhome named Mavis, no less! Well done, Bristol - I don't expect this visit will be easily forgotten.

Visit to Manchester

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, visited Manchester as part of her Diamond Jubilee tour.
You know...I'm all for hat variety, but I just don't know about this one.

The Gold Lace Work Brooch

Gold Lace Work Brooch
One of many wedding gifts received by Princess Elizabeth for her 1947 marriage to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, this gold brooch was given by the Jewelers and Silversmiths of Great Britain. It was described on the official wedding list as "a gold lace-work brooch set with diamonds and rubies," which is obviously where the name I'm using for the piece is pulled from.
As I suppose is appropriate for a gift given by an organization of jewelry craftsmen, this is an intricate brooch with plenty of fine detailing. It obviously appealed to the bride, as she still wears it regularly more than 60 years later.
