Buckingham Palace Garden Party

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family held a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
ITN screencap

Today's garden party opened with a minute of silence for the victims of the terrible Manchester attack. There was plenty of disagreement on social media with the decision to hold the event, but the show - as it always must - went on, honoring some 8,000 people for service to their communities. (With a crowd this size, many of whom would have traveled in advance for the occasion, I suppose the logistics alone could have prompted the decision.)

Bright as the sun, The Queen recreated Day 1 of Ascot 2016, repeating both her Stewart Parvin/Rachel Trevor-Morgan ensemble and the golden brooch it went with.

Three Strand Pearl Necklace

Princess Eugenie, meanwhile, chipped in with a more youthful take on The Queen's memorable orange and blue outfit from Day 3 of Ascot 2016. Not a bad idea, but not a good execution.

If The Duchess of Cornwall hasn't worn this to Ascot yet, I'm sure she will at some point; it seems to be one of her favorites recently. Though she has used this outfit with brooches in the past, she kept it simple with a pearl choker today.

Audiences at Buckingham Palace

The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace.

Orange is one of my least favorite colors, but it does make a nice accent for this room, no?

Royal Life Saving Society Reception, and Audiences at Buckingham Palace

The Queen, accompanied by other members of the Royal Family, hosted a reception for the Royal Life Saving Society at Buckingham Palace.

At first, I though these were the regular Aquamarine Clip Brooches - which was pretty delightful, considering we were just discussing the fact that they haven't been worn much this year. But they are actually something even more delightful: a debut! These two aquamarine clips are pieces from The Queen Mother's collection, worn for the first time by The Queen. (See the link below for more on this debut.)

It's a big day for HM's gem collection, considering The Duchess of Cambridge also borrowed her Diamond Pendant Earrings for the first time tonight. (More on that appearance on the other blog tomorrow.)

Earlier, The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace.

Speaking of favorites that we haven't seen much this year, I'm preeettttty sure this is the Frosted Sunflower, which is somehow only just making its fourth appearance in 2016.

Royal Ascot, Day 1

The Queen honored Ascot Races with her presence today.
For more: Zimbio gallery.

So...it's Rachel Trevor Morgan on hat duty and Stewart Parvin on outfit duty today...and the Frosted Sunflower on brooch duty. The Frosted Sunflower, on Day 1 of Ascot. Am I being punished for something?

Three Strand Pearl Necklace

Thank the Vault Gods for Camilla, anyway.

The Duchess of Cornwall can heal all wounds with her pink topaz super powers. She's pretty in pink today, with her Philip Treacy hat and Bruce Oldfield coat (look how far up her arm the buttons go, interesting detail). Even The Prince of Wales has added a shot of pink to his ensemble. Love.

Easter Service

The Queen and members of the Royal Family attended Easter Service in Windsor.
For more: Zimbio gallery.
The Queen has arrived to brighten up your Easter Sunday! I'm not sure it's possible to have a more sunshine-filled Easter outfit than this one. Picking up on her gold buttons, she wore her trusty Frosted Sunflower Brooch. Surprisingly, by my count, this is only the second time so far this year we've seen her wear this usual favorite.

Enjoy your Easter (or your excuse to eat chocolate and candy) (or both)! We'll have a rundown of the other Easter fashions on display tomorrow at the other blog.

Oh, and psst: Don't forget that Our Queen at 90 airs tonight in the U.K. at 8 pm on ITV!

Church at Sandringham

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended church at Hillington during their Sandringham break. Viscount and Viscountess Linley were also present.
A well-coordinated pair today, no? And the Frosted Sunflower Brooch is getting an early jump on the competition for favorite brooch of 2016 after being dethroned in 2015...

General Synod Opening

The Queen, Supreme Governor of the Church of England, attended the inauguration of the Tenth General Synod. She was accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh.
I have to say, I think this Stewart Parvin coat/Rachel Trevor Morgan hat combo is one of Her Maj's best of late. There's a sophistication here, and I like her choice of taupe gloves (make a note, those of you that wonder why she only ever wears white and black).
It's easy to see why this favorite brooch got the nod today, though - anything else would have disappeared!

Investiture and Audience at Buckingham Palace

The Queen held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace. She also received the Governor of Victoria for a private audience.
Why yes, that is Benedict Cumberbatch picking up his CBE from a Frosted Sunflower-bedecked Queen. Video of the ceremony below, and his remarks outside can be found in the link above for you interested parties:
The Queen wore the same thing for her audience today, click here for those pictures.

Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering

The Queen, accompanied by other members of the Royal Family, presented the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering and hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace.
Here's where I admit that even though I am not fond of this brooch (it's not you, little gold brooch; it's me), it's a wonderful choice for this dress. Sometimes you just need a chunk of gold and diamonds, I guess.

Bonus family member alert! Is Eugenie pairing a dress with a blazer that probably doesn't need a blazer? The odds are high.

British Champions Day at Royal Ascot and Investiture at Windsor Castle

October 16: The Queen held an Investiture at Windsor Castle.
October 17: The Queen visited Ascot Racecourse for the QIPCO British Champions Day.
She made a classic pairing with a purple dress and the Kent Amethyst Brooch for the Investiture, and then another old favorite combo in this sherbet suit and hat and gold brooch. We haven't seen ye old Frosted Sunflower very much this year, and I must say, I've been enjoying its break. (Which is pretty much the same thing I said last time - and yep, still true!)

Epsom Derby

The Queen, accompanied by other members of the Royal Family, attended Investec Derby Day at Epsom Downs Racecourse.
For the traditional kick off to the busiest month in her year, The Queen opted for an old brooch standby, the Frosted Sunflower. Surprisingly for a brooch that usually tops the favorites list at the end of the year, this is only its second outing in 2015. And to tell you the truth, I haven't missed it one bit.
She also transferred it to her dress after taking off her coat...not that the brooch is what you're looking at in this photo.

Accompanying Her Maj and The Duke of Edinburgh for the day:

If you had any doubts that Princess Michael is coordinating her eye patch to her outfits, well, here you go. She's doing quite a job of accessorizing to distract from her surgery recovery, though. That is one impressive jabot pin!

After my own heart with her purple purse and sporting an interesting set of blue jewels, Princess Alexandra of Kent came along for the ride too.

UPDATE: Princess Haya was present with the Dubai racing crew and Sheikh Mohammed.

I usually like her racing style...but this just makes me hope she's saving the best for Ascot.

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home Visit and Audiences at Buckingham Palace

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh opened the new Mary Tealby dog kennels at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, London.
For more: YouTube video, ITV article and video, Zimbio gallery.
So, the Battersea Home put on a canine guard of honor for Her Maj's visit today.
A CANINE GUARD OF HONOR, GUYS. Well, I'd wager this has already made the list for her personal favorite engagements of the year.

Updated to add...
The Queen also held audiences at Buckingham Palace.
For more: Zimbio gallery.
This looks like the Cullinan V. Hard to see as always, but I'll go with that.

Chatham House Academy Launch and Audiences

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, attended the launch of The Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership in International Affairs at Chatham House, London.
I continue to be surprised at how many times we've seen this brooch since it's 2012 debut, but it does make a nice accessory to all those gold buttons.

Earlier, The Queen held several audiences at Buckingham Palace.
This one is not so clear...looks like it could be the old Frosted Sunflower.

Flanders Fields Memorial Garden Opening and Recovery Pathway Reception

Accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duke of Cambridge, The Queen joined The King of the Belgians to open the Flanders Fields Memorial Garden at Wellington Barracks, London.
Remembrance events are picking up speed in advance of Remembrance Day, and HM started out bundled up in a neutral background outfit with one of her favorite brooches.

Later, with The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, The Queen hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to recognize those that have helped injured servicemen and women on their paths to recovery.

For more: Zimbio gallery, Express and Star article.
And later, she went for something new-ish - a brooch from the Queen Mother's collection that was reintroduced this summer. This time, she's worn it vertically instead of horizontally, which is probably just the best way to wear it on this dress, but in my imagination is a cheeky nod to those of you that wish she'd use her regular Aquamarine Clips in a more inventive manner.

Buckingham Palace Garden Party and Audiences

The Queen, with other members of the Royal Family, hosted a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
Gotta love a garden party in the pouring rain, right? With 8,000 guests, you're pretty much stuck with the outdoors anyway. The Queen counteracted the gloom in her cheery yellow (this is the outfit she wore to William and Kate's wedding, if it looks familiar) and her favorite brooch. Other family members in attendance were the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and the always lovely Princess Alexandra of Kent - see the links above.

Also today, the Queen received the Ambassadors of Bolivia and Liberia at Buckingham Palace.

For more: Gallery from Zimbio.
I think she might be  wearing the wee Greville Scroll Brooch, but with the print of the dress (and everything else going on in the room!) it's hard to tell.

One more thing, of little relevance to jewelry, but here you go: Yesterday, the Queen was spotted riding at Windsor Castle.

Northern Ireland Reception, New Zealand Portrait, and Organ Recital

Lots and lots going on. A triple event update:

As part of the ongoing State Visit from Ireland, the Queen hosted a Northern Ireland-themed reception at Windsor Castle which was attended by President and Mrs. Higgins.
Click here for an article from the Express.
This is unusual: Her Majesty normally participates in the welcome, state banquet, and farewell of a state visit these days, without extra events, so this certainly speaks to the importance placed on this particular visit. She's wearing the Jardine Star Brooch - usually a favorite, but hasn't been seen since last November!

Engagement and Wedding Rings

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world...
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge unveiled a new portrait of the Queen by New Zealand artist Nick Cuthell. The portrait was commissioned by the New Zealand Portrait Gallery to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee, and it will become a part of their permanent collection. The Queen sat for this portrait in October 2013.
A casual portrait in her standard day wear, but of course she is sporting the New Zealand brooch most recently loaned to the Duchess (and the Duchess echoed that fern motif with her Jenny Packham gown; click here for another article with photos). Prince William even made mention of the fern jewel in his speech, saying that "Her Majesty is portrayed wearing her silver fern brooch, which provides a simple but clear reminder of Her Majesty's deep affection for the people of New Zealand." So that's all kinds of aww.

Engagement and Wedding Rings

And yesterday...
On April 9, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh attended a recital to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Royal College of Organists at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
Video, above; click here for a gallery.
She took a break from the Irish state visit for a regular engagement, and she took a break from the jewel intrigue, too, returning to her favorite Frosted Sunflower Brooch. But continuing in her trend of doing something a bit out of the ordinary, she opted for a double strand of pearls instead of her typical triple strand and a simple single pearl stud earring instead of her usual pearl and diamond combo. Oooh.

Rambert Dance Visit and Lieutenant Governor Reception

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh officially opened the new headquarters building of the Rambert dance company, South Bank, London.
A vibrant shade of pink to welcome spring, I'm good with that.

And yesterday... The couple held a reception for the Lieutenant Governors of the Crown Dependencies at Buckingham Palace. Click here for a gallery - yet another favorite brooch on display, the Pearl Trefoil.

Commonwealth Day and Prince Edward's Birthday

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh joined other members of the Royal Family at Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth Day Observance Service.

Later, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were present at a reception given by the Commonwealth Secretary-General at Marlborough House to mark Commonwealth Day.
...and one interesting selection! I think this brooch might be new to me, but I'm racking my brain...any thoughts? More to come...

Three Strand Pearl Necklace

And finally: Prince Edward is celebrating his 50th birthday. Over the weekend, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were in attendance at his private birthday party, click here for a glimpse of them in the car. The Queen fancied it up with a longer triple strand of pearls and Queen Alexandra's Wedding Earrings.

Lunch at Chequers

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh had lunch at Chequers, the Prime Minister's country retreat.
Completing the week with yet another old favorite brooch! (And she does look like she's trapped in an overly long house tour, which is hilarious. We've all been there...)
