The Queen's Birthday Party

The Queen, accompanied by members of the Royal Family, attended a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in celebration of her 92nd birthday.

The birthday girl was shimmering in gold and decked out in pearls and diamonds, with some of her favorite pieces for evening events that aren't too formal. (Because how formal can one get while watching Shaggy perform, right?)

BBC

The earrings from Queen Alexandra's Wedding Parure and a longer version of her standard three strand pearl necklace will do just fine. I make little attempt to differentiate between her many pearl necklaces here, but we can see that this one has a detailed pearl and diamond clasp.

Just a little bit of extra bling joined the party in the form of one of The Queen Mother's Cartier bracelets.

The Royal Family packed the seats for this event! Kents in the box to the left, Gloucesters (and Chattos) in the box to the right, and the main royal box filled with members of Her Maj's immediate family, royal fiancés included.

We'll hit highlights from the other guests at the other blog. We'll catch a pair of sparkly earrings here, though:

The Duchess of Cornwall wore her Van Cleef & Arpels Magic Alhambra Diamond Earrings! Love the purple dress and love those dangling gems (not least because we can actually see them beneath the hair, ahem). Her pearl choker is one we actually haven't covered yet, one of her more recent additions with a sapphire (or other dark stone) clasp.

CHOGM Opening Ceremony, Reception, and Audiences

The Queen and members of the Royal Family attended the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) at Buckingham Palace. Afterward, The Queen and The Prince of Wales hosted a reception for the new Commonwealth Heads of Government.

A big chunk of diamonds from the late Queen Mother's collection made its 2018 debut for the CHOGM Opening today. This Shell Brooch is seriously sparkly, observe while you check out all the rest of the royal family members at the ceremony:

The brooch kept its place on Her Maj's interesting skirt suit - color strategically selected so as not to echo the colors of any one country's flag too closely, I expect - as she and The Prince of Wales hosted a reception afterward.

Also today, The Queen received the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, for a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

Oh, and a tricky one to follow up  I see the Diamond Rose of York Brooch, and the rest of you see about seven different things, based on your comments.

Commonwealth Walkway Panel Unveiling and Audiences at Buckingham Palace

The Queen unveiled a Commonwealth Walkway Panel in the Buckingham Palace Gardens as part of the Outdoor Trust's Commonwealth Walkway project.

A lovely light outfit for a lovely Spring day, and not a bad background for the big diamonds in this brooch.

The brooch also made an appearance on the dress underneath, where it is much harder to make out.

Audience at Windsor Castle

The Queen received the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, for an audience at Windsor Castle.

There are so many heads of state in town for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting this week that The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry all had to pitch in to cover the welcome duties. The Queen met with the President of South Africa and presented him with an interesting gift: letters exchanged between herself and Nelson Mandela marking South Africa's re-entry into the Commonwealth in 1994. You can see the usual gifts of framed photographs are off to the side. The brooch, alas, is much harder to see.

Audience at Windsor Castle

Ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting next week, The Queen received the Commonwealth Secretary-General, the Baroness Scotland of Asthal.

A furry welcoming committee and new pictures to analyze for those of you that love to look around the room, what an audience. A good brooch, too.

Well, this is all pleasingly coordinated, from queen to room and even to this guest (in white, the President of Estonia; also received today was the Governor-General of Barbados). The Gold Lace Work Brooch is never a favorite of mine, but the gold and rubies are nice with this dress.

Always interesting when a brooch with a colored stone is paired with a different color - rubies with green, here - but then again this brooch is barely ruby to start with.

Can you believe we haven't seen the popular Aqua Clips since October? Her Maj is delighted to welcome them back.

Visit from the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia

The Queen received Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, at Buckingham Palace for a private audience. The Queen also hosted a luncheon for the Crown Prince, who is in the United Kingdom on an official visit.

I'm not mad at more purple and another appearance for the Women of Hampshire Brooch, not mad at all.

Fresh off its run as one of the most significant brooches of 2017, the Grima Ruby has returned to take a stab at 2018. I'm glad it brings some color to this outfit of Her Maj's, especially when she's standing next to this resplendent guest, the Ambassador of the Republic of Chad.

Audience at Buckingham Palace

The Queen received Sarah Clarke, who has been appointed the first female Black Rod in the 650-year history of the position in the House of Lords, for a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

A little sideways glimpse of a brooch favorite today, to go with this historic appointment.

This is a quick repeat! We just saw this dress on February 2nd, with the same brooch.

Back to the daily grind! At least this daily grind includes something (apparently) amusing, a fabulous hat, a couple of bird statues, and a Queen Mary brooch we haven't seen in four years.

Visit to RAF Marham

The Queen, Honorary Air Commodore, visited RAF Marham, Norfolk.

You'll hear no objection from me over a fresh purple outfit and the first amethyst appearance of the year, but you already knew that.

Royal Air Force/Crown Copyright

As always, a Norfolk engagement signals that the end of the Sandringham winter break is near. The Queen usually stays through her accession date (February 6) before heading back to London and her regular public schedule. RAF Marham is a regular Norfolk stop for her; she visits about every other year.

Although there was actually a head-on shot published from this group of audiences, this brooch is a little easier to pick out from the side, I think. There's a dot of bright blue to indicate the first 2017 appearance of this turquoise and diamond brooch.

Christmas Staff Luncheon

December 12: The Queen had a pre-Christmas lunch with her staff at the Goring Hotel.

This is a beautiful suit for Her Maj, and this rich color is the perfect background for the delicate Waterford Crystal petals on this Mappin & Webb brooch. Festively well played!

Wow, we can actually sorta see a brooch here, at an investiture! But apparently that's not enough, as we still have disagreement.
