D-Day 75th Anniversary

The Queen and The Prince of Wales joined other world leaders to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day at an event on Southsea Common, Portsmouth.

There have been a number of war commemoration events over the past few years and The Queen has regularly attended them wearing brooches associated with her mother. That touching gesture continued today with the Centenary Rose Brooch, her own 100th birthday gift to The Queen Mother. She was all in on the pink today, striking a welcome bright note in a sea of dark suits.

Order of Merit Luncheon

Well, well, well, a rare sighting of The Duke of Edinburgh! He is not just accompanying The Queen here, of course; he is a member of the Order of Merit himself.

The Centenary Rose is also making its first appearance in some time (last seen at Ascot 2018). I think it definitely improves with a jewel tone as a background instead of the pastels and sweeter pinks Her Maj often wears it on.

HOT PINK for Ladies' Day, friends. Another combo from Stewart Parvin and Rachel Trevor Morgan today. I think the strength of this color helps to cut the serious twee potential of the Centenary Rose Brooch. Though I am, as ever, not wild about this brooch.

Royal Windsor Horse Show

May 9-13: The Queen attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show at Home Park, Windsor.

The Royal Windsor Horse Show is mainly an opportunity to see The Queen in casual mode - this year's casual outfits included a Two Strand Pearl Necklace, Pearl Stud Earrings, one of her Black Strap Watches, and her Engagement and Wedding Rings - but a few brooches also manage to get in on the action.

And it looks like we have a third brooch here, at what I suppose is some of the evening entertainment. Maybe The Queen Mother's Palm Leaf Brooch, hard to be sure.

Holyrood Week: Audiences, Investiture, and Garden Party

The Queen received the First Minister of Scotland and the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament for audiences at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Her Majesty also held an Investiture at the Palace.
For more: Video at  YouTube.

The brooch many thought may have been a 90th birthday present last year finally makes a 2017 appearance. It really does look like an eye from a distance...

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duke of York, attended a Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

I'm so curious to hear what everyone thinks of this new outfit. It's a lot of pink with the most sugary of pink brooches, plus a lot of textures. The pink buttons are a step too far for me. (Beneath the ever-present pearls, really?)

Garden Party and Audience at Buckingham Palace

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family held a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Her Maj decided to kick off this year's garden parties with a pink brooch for soft pink outfit, and she wasn't the only one in a pastel mood today.

In a repeated Christopher Kane coat with a Lock & Co. hat - so, basically sporting an "lolz, soooo true" response to those that felt her coat for her recent Luxembourg trip was more of the same - The Duchess of Cambridge joined other members of the Royal Family for the garden party.

The Queen held an audience at Buckingham Palace.

Earlier on this two brooch day, The Queen chose Prince Albert's Sapphire to adorn a blue floral dress. Good thing she did, I think many of her regular diamond or pearl favorites would have disappeared.

Royal Ascot, Day 4

The Queen honored Ascot Races with her presence today.

Those of you that had the Centenary Rose Brooch in our Ascot Brooch Stakes, come on down! The G. Collins & Sons Brooch commissioned by The Queen for her mother's 100th birthday was nicely set off by Her Maj's coral Angela Kelly outfit and feathery comb over hat. We haven't seen it in use since 2013, so that puts a check in the reappearance category on my Ascot wish list - even if it wasn't exactly the gem I was hoping would fulfill that spot. (Hits a little too far on the twee side for me, I'm afraid.)

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall returned to Ascot on Day 4, which is a treat; Days 1 and 2 are often the extent of their attendance. They actually had their first runner at Ascot today, but the horse didn't place.
Leave it to Camilla to pull off three different pearl chokers in a week. This one has been her overwhelming favorite this year.

State Visit from South Korea, Welcome Ceremony

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh welcomed the President of the Republic of Korea, Her Excellency Park Geun-hye, at the beginning of her State Visit to the United Kingdom.

Glad to see the Centenary Rose Brooch out and about again - by my count this is the second outing this year - but...all these pink outfits and no debut of the new tourmaline brooch is just a tease, no?
(Bonus mention to the lovely President, though, for bringing her own elegant brooch bling!)

Coronation Bouquet Presentation and Buckingham Palace Garden Party

The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace and received the Worshipful Company of Gardeners, who presented her with a replica of her coronation bouquet to mark the 60th anniversary of the coronation. Later, she hosted a garden party, accompanied by other members of the royal family.

You know, I almost said yesterday how nice it was to get the Kent Amethyst instead of this one...and here we are! She's gonna need a bigger purple selection if we continue on like this. Anyway, receiving a bouquet calls for a bouquet brooch of one sort or another. Click here for an article about the replica bouquet.
For the garden party, she brought out one we haven't seen in close to a year - and the last time we saw it, it was on this same outfit, pink and bows, practically too sweet. Click here for an article on the garden party, which was the first one attended by Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie (who somehow managed to leave the statement hats to their aunt Anne).

Royal Ascot, Day Two

The Queen, with The Duke of Edinburgh, honored Ascot Races with her presence today.
Just like Molly Ringwald, QEII went for the vintage look on the second day of Ascot with the Centenary Rose Brooch. Bows, bows, everywhere.
