Queen's Trust Reception

The Queen hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark the work of The Queen's Trust.

So by my count, this is the first time we've seen the Cambridge Pearl Pendant at an event other than an audience or an investiture since 2015. And even this one is still inside the palace. Evidence mounts that the brooch truly is under house arrest.

Can you spy the brooch on this dress? At first glance, it appears to be the Cambridge Pearl Pendant Brooch worn without its pendant. I am thinking, however, that it may be another; The Queen has at least one other small round brooch with a central pearl and diamond surround (honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if she has more than one other, this is a popular and not particularly distinctive arrangement of stones). This brooch seems a bit smaller than the Cambridge. It's very difficult to be certain without a front view and on this background.

It's been almost a year since we've spotted the Cambridge Pearl Pendant - but given how popular it usually is for audiences, it wouldn't surprise me if it's been a hidden audience brooch this year.

HMS Queen Elizabeth Commissioning, Scripture Union Anniversary, and Audiences

The Queen attended the Commissioning Ceremony of aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth in Portsmouth. Her Majesty was accompanied by The Princess Royal, Commodore-in-Chief of HMNB Portsmouth.

Purple, Anne in uniform, and Her Maj’s usual delight around these sorts of events. That’s a top notch engagement for you.

Amethysts make it even better! They’re the cherry on top of this outfit. The grape on top of this outfit, perhaps we should say.

Not so entirely certain about the red and gold of the Grima Ruby Brooch against this hot pink, on the other hand.

And here we have the Cambridge Pearl, doing an admirable job of sticking out despite the heavy floral on this dress. Plus, a triplet moment! She coincidentally coordinates very well with the Nigerian High Commissioner George Adesola Oguntade and Mrs. Oguntade.

Can it really be that this is just the second time we've seen the Cambridge Pearl this year? And previously at an audience, too. Has it been sentenced to a year of hard time in the 1844 Room? I don't mind, to tell you the truth. At least it's one of the few that can usually be identified in these audiences.

It's been over a year since we last saw the Cambridge Pearl Pendant Brooch in action! Did you notice its absence? Did you miss it? I wonder what it did with all its vacation time...

Berkhamsted School Visit and Audience at Buckingham Palace

The Queen, Patron, visited Berkhamsted School, Hertfordshire, to celebrate its 475th anniversary.

A perfect brooch selection, this is - in color, style, and size. Well done, Your Maj.

May 5: The Queen received the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, for a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

Another audience, another brooch staple.

Investiture at Windsor Castle

The Queen held an Investiture at Windsor Castle.
Finally, a current event for us after Easter, and an actual brooch we can see to boot. The Cambridge Pearl is a perfect investiture brooch - plenty big to spot from the side.

High Commissioners' Banquet and Audiences

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended a reception for the High Commissioners' Banquet to mark Commonwealth Week at the Guildhall, London.
I said the first time we saw this outfit/brooch combo - which was during Commonwealth week last year - that I felt this suit needs a stronger gold brooch, and I have to stick with that assessment on second glance.

Also today, The Queen held audiences at Buckingham Palace.
I don't know what prompted this different look at the usual audience room, but I do know that a peek at this little sit down with the splendidly attired High Commissioner for Rwanda makes me way too happy. A brooch view! Bless. What I really can't believe is that I don't have a positively identified public appearance for the Cambridge Pearl - always a favorite - listed since July 2015. Inconceivable.

I have to say, of all the colors in that carpet to match, I would not have picked the yellowy-green. But anyway, here's the Cambridge Pearl for those of you that missed it at the christening.

The Christening of Princess Charlotte

The Queen, along with other members of the Royal Family, attended the christening of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham.
We will be covering this event tomorrow on the other blog, but over here, we'll cover the interests of this blog (that would be the jewels of The Queen and The Duchess of Cornwall, in case you hadn't picked up on that).

The Queen selected the Gold Filigree Brooch(Singapore Peranakan Diamond Jubilee Brooch) to go with her pale pink outfit, and I think this is my favorite appearance of this brooch yet - light, fresh, and summery! Perfect for the christening of a great-granddaughter. This brooch first appeared in 2012 and though we don't know anything about its history, we've seen it several times since. Update: It was a gift from Singapore, turned into a personal favorite.
(Also relevant to all interests, everywhere: consultations of great importance with one's great granny.)

The Duchess of Cornwall paired her Everyday Pearl Earrings with her Pearl Four Strand choker with Large Diamond Clasp - a frequent selection for special occasions - and layered that over the small "C" charm chain she's been wearing with everything lately.

Also, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended Sunday service at Sandringham earlier (they were not arriving for the christening itself here, despite what the caption the tweet below says).
Not seen in this snap (but seen elsewhere), The Queen was wearing the Cambridge Pearl Pendant Brooch.

Again, stay tuned tomorrow at the other blog for coverage of the rest of the event.

Women's Institute Centenary Meeting and Prince Harry, KCVO

The Queen opened the Annual Meeting of the Women's Institute in its centenary year at Royal Albert Hall, London. The Princess Royal and The Countess of Wessex were also present.
This WI centenary business is producing some good events so far. First, it gives us a garden party attended by the royal version of the Fantastic Four, and now, Her Maj joins in with her daughter and daughter-in-law for a bit of fun.
The Queen is President of the Sandringham branch of the Women's Institute, and pays them a visit during her annual holiday break. She has a Women's Institute Badge that she often wears to that meeting, but today she went with the Cambridge Pearl Pendant Brooch. A gorgeous match for her Rachel Trevor-Morgan hat and Stewart Parvin coat, no?
Video: Highlights, with a bit of cake cutting fun at the end

The Queen was also scheduled to attend a garden party today alongside The Countess of Wessex, according to her calendar the last time I checked it, but it appears that she did not attend after all. She did do one more important thing today:

Prince Harry has now been appointed a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, and was received in a private audience by The Queen today. (No photos are available.)
My psychic powers are strong this week! Just yesterday, I posted about the insignia of the Royal Victorian Order. While my post concentrated on the insignia as worn by a Knight or Dame Grand Cross (The Duchess of Cornwall's rank), Prince Harry has been made a Knight Commander, which is one rank below. Instead of wearing his Badge on a sash, it will be worn on a ribbon around the neck, and the Star is slightly different. Here is the insignia presented to him:
I assume that after some years have passed, he will be made a Knight Grand Cross, as happened with his uncles Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. While some have been waiting for Harry to get the Order of the Garter (doubtful until Charles takes the throne, if you ask me), this is the one I've been waiting for him to receive. It's a great way to recognize the good works he's done so far!

She's giving us a flashback to her last Christmas message outfit, minus the fancier necklace and earrings. And minus the purple Christmas ornament background, which is the saddest omission this time around.

This pearl is so big, it's an easy identification even from a side view. Gotta love that Cambridge Pearl. (And how nice of her to wear it on a day when I'm featuring mega pearls on the other blog! So considerate.)

Christmas Service and Christmas Broadcast, 2014

The Queen, accompanied by members of the Royal Family, attended Christmas service at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham.
For more: Daily Mail photos, Zimbio gallery.
A very merry Christmas to you all! Here's Her Maj's present for you: another look at the Tudor Rose Brooch, which first appeared in 2012. I'm not a huge fan of that brooch on this particular color coat (though my love for HM in brights never ceases), but I love that it serves as something of a symbol of this year of unusual brooch selections. (Stick around for our year in review post here, which goes up on the 31st! It's going to be a doozy. Also, we'll be covering other family members at the service on the other blog later on.)

The Queen's annual message was broadcast on Christmas Day.
For more: Article from the BBC, video embedded below.
The Queen talks much about this year of remembrance, including the centenary of World War I. The photos on the table are of her grandparents, King George V and Queen Mary, who were king and queen back in 1914, and the brass box sitting in front would have been filled with presents for the troops back then as part of an effort organized by their daughter, Princess Mary.
Her selection of a brooch which came to her via Queen Mary has a bit of additional significance in that context. The Cambridge Pearl Pendant has made several appearances in Christmas broadcasts past, most recently appearing in 2012 and 2004. She's gone slightly fancier for this occasion, abandoning her usual earrings and triple strand of pearls for the larger version of those earrings, also from Queen Mary, and a longer double strand of pearls (as you'll see from the post linked below, I rarely attempt to differentiate between her many, many pearl necklaces). Very elegant, and on a final and tremendously superficial note...bonus points from me for a purple outfit and purple ornaments to match!

Later, the Queen hosted a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. Other members of the royal family in attendance included the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke of York, Princess Eugenie of York, the Princess Royal, and the Duchess of Gloucester.

....and then some aquamarines. This outfit gets full marks - has to be one of my favorites in the current rota. I've probably said that before, but it deserves to be said again. That hat! Fab. More on other family members in attendance tomorrow on the other blog.

Easter Service and a New Official Portrait

The Queen, accompanied by members of the Royal Family, attended Easter Service in Windsor.

Apparently there's some construction work going on that prevented the traditional photo op coming up the stairs and accepting flowers, so much of the Easter coverage is as above. My, doesn't Her Maj's back look well... But we did get to see, through the rain, a pair of Aqua Clips making a return appearance, click here for that. They were a bright spot on an outfit that reflected a dreary day with its muted shade of blue. Pretty much everyone except the Princess Royal in a rich green seemed determined to dress to blend in with the rain, the building, or maybe a bird crashing into the building (in the case of the Countess of Wessex's hat). Click here for plenty of photos, plus a video, from the Daily Mail.

Three Strand Pearl Necklace

Also today, a new official portrait of the Queen was released. The portrait by British photographer David Bailey was commissioned by the Government's GREAT Britain campaign. It was taken in March and released to mark Her Majesty's 88th birthday on Monday.
What's great about this, from a jewel perspective, is how much dimension it gives the Cambridge Pearl Pendant Brooch. You typically have to catch this one from the side in order to tell that the pearl is much larger than it seems from a head-on shot. I'm loving it. Click here for more on the portrait from the BBC.

Visit to the City of London

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh undertook a day of engagements in the City of London, attending a reception to mark the 800th anniversary of the Royal Watermen at Watermen's Hall and then visiting Lloyds of London to commemorate the market's 325th anniversary.
I've said it once, now I'll say it twice: Ye Olde Cambridge Pearl looks so lonely without its pendant. I'm not sure I love that, but I do love this:
