The Australian Wattle will do very nicely as a recovery from a no brooch weekend, thankyouverymuch Your Maj.

The Queen zhuzhed up an existing hat with a little more color and she was joined by Princess Eugenie, who wore a repeated Erdem dress.

A pleasing color story for the entire group, wouldn't you say?

Christmas Service and Christmas Broadcast, 2017

Merry Christmas! We'll be chatting about the other fashions on Christmas display during the annual Windsor church walk at the other blog tomorrow. But first, The Queen:

I confess, I had my fingers crossed that Christmas this year would bring us a first outing of the Sapphire Jubilee Snowflake Brooch received from Canada earlier this year. Her Maj had in mind another Commonwealth treat, however: the Australian Wattle Brooch, looking large and proud on this orange outfit. The Wattle is making its third appearance of 2017, which is the most we've seen it in one year since I started keeping track here.

While we're at it, The Queen's companion in the car to church today was The Duchess of Cornwall, who sported another jewel we've covered here: The Queen Mother's Rock Crystal Brooch.

The Queen's Christmas message this year speaks of home and pays tribute to London and Manchester as well as honoring The Duke of Edinburgh in the year he retired. Pictures from her wedding and this year's platinum anniversary join snaps of Prince George and Princess Charlotte at her side; off to the side (which you can't see in this shot) were also pictures of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, plus a picture from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement. She's wearing a dress made for her Diamond Jubilee, and accompanying that with one of her favorite brooches this year (and most years), the Jardine Star.

Coming up before we hit the new year: our annual round up of the year in The Queen's jewels, with the big brooch tally! Stay tuned...

Queen's Award for Enterprise Reception and Audience at Buckingham Palace

We have another multiple brooch day on our hands - and this one must be aiming for some kind of total carat weight record...

The Queen gave a reception for the Queen's Award for Enterprise at Buckingham Palace.
For more: Zimbio gallery.

Starting off with a Cullinan, natch. This was Her Maj's choice for this event last year, too.

Engagement and Wedding Rings

Earlier, The Queen received the Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull, for an audience at Buckingham Palace.

Fitting her brooch to her prime minister adds another hefty amount of carats to the day's picture. The Australian Wattle was in order for the Australian PM, of course. (And, you'll notice, even it can barely do battle with those ubiquitous floral prints.)

Commonwealth Day and Baton Relay Launch

Double brooch day!

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh and The Earl of Wessex, launched the XXI Commonwealth Games Baton Relay outside Buckingham Palace.

Kicking off on a bright note, the outfit is a delight but the brooch is not the best (this is the second time we've seen it in a month, which is more than enough for me). I preferred this cerise Stewart Parvin coat with the Diamond and Rose Gold Brooch.

Three Strand Pearl Necklace

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family attended the Commonwealth Day observance service at Westminster Abbey.

Keeping the brightness going, this Angela Kelly outfit wasn't just a spot of sunshine in a sea of dark suits, it was the perfect background for a wonderful brooch surprise: the Australian Wattle! The brooch hasn't been seen in action since 2014. Sooooo many diamonds. Watch how it glints in this video, towards the end. You can't even see the entire thing, and yet it's like a strobe light on her shoulder. Yum.

The Duchess of Cornwall also pulled a double jewel day.

Her favorite Four Strand Pearl Choker with Large Diamond Clasp accompanied her purple suit for the Commonwealth service. Later, when she and The Prince of Wales attended the Commonwealth Secretary's reception, the suit was the same and the jewels were swapped out for her set of pansy brooches, always a favorite with this outfit.
Clarence House

No complaints about the purple theme here, you know. (The Queen is usually the one that attends this reception, but Charles and Camilla took her place this year.)

Buckingham Palace Garden Party

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of York, hosted a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace for the Not Forgotten Association.
We haven't seen this brooch in action since 2011, by my count - far too long for such a luscious group of diamonds to be neglected! Thank goodness Her Maj is in a mood to delight this year.

Updated to add: Also today, the Queen held audiences (click here), wearing the Greville Scroll Brooch. One of the people she received was the new High Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Australia, so maybe that inspired her wattle choice for the garden party.

The Australian Wattle Brooch

The Australian Wattle Brooch
During her Coronation tour of 1954, the Queen was presented with this brooch from the people and government of Australia. It depicts a spray of wattle (the national flower) with mimosa leaves and tea tree blossoms in white and colored diamonds. It's gotten a lot of use since that first tour, and sees outings even when the event is not directly related to Australia (something you can't say for many of her official gifts).
